Putty & WinSCP

Introduction

Putty is a free and open-source terminal emulator/serial console. It supports many network protocols like SCP, SSH, Telnet serial ports, etc... PuTTY is particularly useful because it allows users to remotely access and manage devices such as Raspberry Pi computers, Linux servers, network equipment and embedded systems. Through an SSH connection, it is possible to open a command-line terminal on a remote device and execute commands as if a keyboard and monitor were connected directly to it.

WinSCP is a windows program that lets you access and manage files on another device remotely from your own PC. It allows the user to copy, delete, rename files, create folders, without having to type commands in a terminal.

1. Install PuTTY

1. Download PuTTY from the official PuTTY website. https://putty.org/index.html
2. Select the appropriate installer for your Windows version, usually the 64-bit MSI installer.
3. Open the downloaded file.
4. Follow the installation wizard
5. After installation, open PuTTY from the Windows Start menu.

2. Establish a SSH connection to the desired device by inputting the device's IP address like the image below choose SSH connection type and press "Open":
